The story of the Hryshchenko family. “I don’t know how I was not killed, I was pulled out from under the rubble.”

Klavdiia is a 74-year-old pensioner who lived in her house with her younger son, who is sick and does not work. She and her husband built a house for their family, their kids, back in 1996. Klavdiia’s husband and eldest son died.
From the beginning of the full-scale invasion, the woman was at home, and in case of shelling, she went to her cellar.
A shell hit Klaudiia’s yard. At that time, she was in the house and was going back to the cellar. “This is where I was lying”, Klavdiіa said, showing where she was under the rubble. “It’s good that I was dressed, everything fell on me. I don’t even know who pulled me out, there is nobody to thank. One of the local boys pulled me out. I came round at my neighbor’s place three houses away from here”.

During the occupation, she stayed in her native village, and lived with a neighbor, but went to cook and feed 3 dogs in her own yard. She cooked food on an improvised stove, which she made of stone. After the projectile hit, a large hole remained, which the woman filled with broken glass and garbage herself. Shortly before the start of the full-scale invasion, Klavdiia had surgery, and after the shelling, she suffered a stroke. She currently lives with her relatives in Kyiv, who gave her temporary shelter during the cold season.

Later, the woman stayed with her relatives in Kyiv, who provided temporary shelter during the cold season. After the installation of the modular house, Klavdiia returned to her courtyard, saying “You know, it’s good to be a guest, but home is always better!”
Thanks to the contribution from OLX Ukraine, a 3-Module NEST-house іnstalled for the Hryshchenko family
