“How can this be real? This is my home, I grew up there”. The story of Olena’s family from Kalynivka

Olena near the destroyed house

Olena and her little daughter lived in a cozy house in Kalynivka. The eldest daughter has her own family, their house in Kalynivka was destroyed, so at the beginning of the invasion, everyone gathered in Olena’s house.

At first, they thought of staying over, but when the earth started pouring onto the roof, it became scary. They grabbed the children and left quickly.

When the family came back, the big “Grad” was lying in the room. Another one was in the barn, and the third one was in the garden.

Olena was left not only without a house but also without a job. She worked at the market as a controller, but it was also destroyed. Olena’s husband died before the full-scale invasion, so when she came back home, she had no one to turn to.

Olena’s daughter is 11 years old, she was sad and worried when she found out that the house where she grew up, her room, and anything else is gone.

Olena and her daughter temporarily live with neighbors. The family remains without support and their family nest.

We installed a prefabricated house for Olena and her daughter thanks to the fundraising initiative of Ukrainians in Korea.
