Story of the Radchenko family

“How we evacuated and drove along the road… you would have to see it, it’s impossible to describe. So many tanks broken, bodies, something burning, ruins. We rode for four days about the village, we couldn’t gather the children, I thought I would lose my mind, it’s very difficult,” Petro’s wife told. After evacuating her relatives she remained in the community, as she was looking after a relative with disabilities.

On March 5th Petro took his children and grandchildren out of Makariv, and in a few days, they were already in western Ukraine. From there, his daughter-in-law and the children went to Germany, where they still remain, as there is nowhere to return to.

“This happened on March 18th: russian artillery shells coming from the direction of Havronshchyna, in the morning, flew into our house.” Petro and his wife returned on April 14th. Now they live with relatives in a village near Makariv.

The big family has been left without a home: Petro Radchenko’s son, daughter-in-law, and their four children. The eldest son is eight years old, and the youngest daughter is three and a half years old. Petro’s son works at the local mechanics and temporarily lives at his relatives’ place, with his parents.

The Radchenkos want to rebuild and reunite their family, but the family is unable to build a new house on their own. “We sorted through the ruins somewhat, only a little trash remains. In spring we’ll finish cleaning everything. My daughter-in-law and the kids are constantly desperate to return to Ukraine, but don’t have anywhere to return to.”

Thanks to the contribution from OLX Ukraine, we have installed a 5-module NEST-house for the Radchenko family
